What happened to Scandal?

I started losing interest by the end of Season 2, but now it is just excruciating to watch.

  • Olivia Pope is a big hypocrite.
  • President Fitz Grant is an asshole.
  • Mellie is now one of the best characters on the show, despite the writers' efforts to turn her into a cartoon shrew - which only shows how bad Olivia and Fitz have become. I like Mellie, but even I know it's trouble in paradise when Mellie is coming up smelling like roses.
  • Quinn Perkins, oh god where do I even begin? Just kill off this creature if the writers have no idea what to do with her anymore.

I only watch this show to look at Charlie and Jake Ballard. Even then, I tend to do other things when these two are not in a scene, because this show is now a pale shadow of what it was during Season 1 and the first half of Season 2.

I liked Scandal. They almost lost me in Season 1 when the Fritz became the lead.

They did lose me before X-mas with the mother prisoner storyline. When she got on the plane and Liv said goodbye that was when I said goodbye. It wasn't a purposeful goodbye on my part. I thought I'd watch when it came back from break but I don't turn it on or watch on Hulu. I guess they went too over-the-top for me.

I must admit it was fun to see Phoebe in politics and I really wish Jon Barrowman would have become a regular cuz I'm a fan of his over-the-top "goodness." I also agree that Mellie was turning into a complex character but I actively disliked it when they were making her "stupid and grasping" in order to make her the bad guy. Make her the bad guy but stop relying on gender stereotypes.

Alas, c'est la vie

Why should Mellie be the bad guy anyway? I never understand that. She's the one being cheated on. So she's ambitious? Well, Fitz KILLED an old woman to keep his post after realizing that his election was rigged. And yet I'm supposed to... what, root for him and Olivia? Oh please.

Yeah, completely with you. I hated the Mellie right before Fritz kills the judge. She really didn't have enough complexity then and the writers made a point of pointing out her stupidity. Then they turn around and show us these flashbacks which completely contradict how we're supposed to view her intelligence and ability to wield power.

Have you watched House of Cards either the US version or the original UK version?

Definitely different contracts on political wives. I watched the UK version first. Now there was some definite over-the-top evilness. In many ways I found the UK's characterization deeper. The US version wants to be taken more seriously.

Anyway, the UK wife (whose name escapes me) was a background character. We didn't see much of her but I came to believe that she was a power player behind the scenes. Claire doesn't work as well for me. I don't really get the notion that she's a power player.

Heard of, but has never seen House of Cards. Too busy with Elementary, Almost Human, RuPaul's Drag Race, etc, but will check it out when I can. Too many shows, too little time!
