It looks like the RWA is going to stop all those jokes about its irrelevancy by standing united and apparently pushing for the rights of Romance to be exclusively limited to only heterosexuals.
Note that RWA hasn't come out yet and said which option is the "correct" one. But with its previous ridiculous overreaction to erotic romance ("No anal please, we're White Baptist Romance Authors from the South!") and now this, it will be too easy for many people to assume that the RWA is striving for relevancy in ways that will no doubt excite some and dismay others. I have the popcorns ready. I can't wait for the RWA to change its name to the Laura Welch Bush Foundation of White Christian Republican Housewives Writing Tales of Submissive and Obedient Good Women in Love.
Sometimes, it does seem as if RWA = Rarely Worth Anything. I mean, come on, is there any purpose to having such a stupid poll in the first place, other than to infuriate certain folks and make other people - like me - view the organization like a circus waiting to happen? Like Monica Jackson said, the timing of that poll can't be worse.
Stupid, RWA - really, really stupid.
