I'm slow, I know, but I just only realized how many romance-related sites out there have a gateway page telling people to bug off to Google or something if they are under 18.
I know some websites put up such pages to cover their rear ends, but I also know that were I under 18, that kind of warning page is not going to stop me from clicking on the "enter" link. Won't it be better to get some kind of rating from ICRA or something because I understand such a certification will ensure that the filters in schools, et cetera, will act accordingly and make sure no kiddies will read the charming sex scenes written by someone who may very well be their mother or teacher? That is the purpose of those gateway pages, right?
And while I'm at it, what is the purpose of slapping a picture of a half-naked couple in torrid embrace on a gateway page designed to warn kiddies away from the website? That kind of picture acts as an enticement to click enter, don't you think, and therefore defeats the purpose of such a page?
Before you ask, no, I'm not putting a "Get lost, kiddies!" page on any part of my website. I did it the last time but that's because my web hosting provider insisted, heh, and my current one hasn't asked me to. After all, I'm not going to waste my time. Kiddies ain't stopping even if I tell them to.
