Lulu Shopping Space

Am I the only one who actually goes shopping for self-published books? Only me? Okay then.

To my delight, Lulu has reorganized its shopping area so that books are now categorized by genre. The romance stories now have their own section (here). This makes my life so much easier so yes, here's two thumbs up for Lulu.

On the other hand, those authors who priced their ebooks over $5.00 are crazy. To those who charge more than $15.00 for an ebook, they must be insane. Don't they want an audience for those books? Or do they think they are comparable to John Grisham and Stephen King that they can charge such prices for their stories?

I agree totally - when I was setting up a quickie on Lulu for a collection of short stories (reprints from previously sold stories, just clumped together for those who want them in one shot) I was shocked to see the prices. I can't ask for more than three dollars with a straight face for a PDF download. Don't any of these authors compare with other online sites as to what the pricing range currently is???

Well, you know I shop Lulu. Just yesterday I was suggesting to an author that a 15 page ebook is not 'great value' at $5 : / I suspect some of these people don't research the market before entering it (cue mental image of skinny dipping lobsters).

It's probably great value if it's an informational/non-fiction ebook, but fiction at over $5.00 for self-published efforts is never a good idea IMO.
