Okay, so it's Ann Somerville we are talking about here, which, for some people out there, is enough reason to go, "Ah, no wonder!" and move along.

But honestly now, I find myself amused by her latest rant against teddypig here:

(Cut and paste the link to your browser URL bar - she bans traffic from this blog to hers because she has decided that I am her enemy.)

What am I supposed to think when we have a straight woman accusing a gay man for being a homophobe over a matter that is more about online privacy than homophobia? It's quite funny, really. The other accusations Ann hurled at Teddypig ("vitriolic tirade of abuse", "revolting hate campaign") are pure nonsense - you only have to go to Teddypig's blog and search for entries related to Beautiful Cocksucker to see how Teddypig reacted. Compare that to the reactions of Paul and Ann in that saga.

Ann has comments that are valid but she always just have to resort to hyperbolic character assassination at the same time. And in this instance, I feel that I should speak up for Teddypig here, because Ann's accusations in this instance are plain wrong when it comes to his supposed crimes against Ann and gay men in general.

Honestly she can post my name all she wants.

If you notice Ms. G I have posted my name here by accident before.

It's no big deal.

But I try and stay out of wankfests.

I am who I am and I generally try and say only things I would say to someone's face.

I also never take the Internet more serious than real life. I guess that is why I don't see myself as Teddypig Superstar. I'm just some pig.

Nah, I decided not to feed the troll a while back, when she actually mentioned on her blog that my issues (ie, I didn't want to review her book) were related to my mother's death. My issues.

She really doesn't care about her writing career, does she? Talk about being branded "difficult"!

Since we're unburdening ourselves, I'll allow myself a bit more leeway than usual here. I try not to talk about her online, because she's characterized the fact that I've disagreed with her on a few issues as an "active campaign" against her--when in reality, as often as not, I find myself on her side of things and say so. But once again, disagreeing with her (or not wholeheartedly and unquestioningly agreeing with every aspect of her POV) is tantamount to the vilest sin. I have to say, unless Teddy's evil twin was sending her email threats that none of us know about (including him), pretty much all the hate in his dealings with her has been traveling in his direction, not hers.

I do find it amusing that she accuses him of a "hate campaign", when clearly that's what she herself is engaged in. It's nice that you've come to his defense, Mrs. G, but honestly, I think most intelligent adults consider the source and take her comments with an entire 50 lb bag of salt.

It's a slow day in Australia. But then again, if you click back through her archive you can see that it's ALWAYS a slow day in Australia. And Ann never has anything good to say about anybody for more than about 30 seconds, which is about how long it takes for her to take umbrage at the next person/place/thing/issue and rush to the next source of wank.

I'm curious -- was there some rationale given for your RL name being posted, Teddy? It's difficult for me to find such action justified, unless it's a matter of exposing a pedophile or other online menace.

Yikes, I can't imagine squandering so much time and energy on so many rants. What purpose does that serve?

I'm just saying how truly bad I am at being anonymous. I have no clue why she feels I am such a great example of someone seeking to hide their identity.

I mean honestly it's about on the same level as when I hide the covers of my romances at work.

I would feel uncomfortable if it was found out but they probably would not fire me over my behavior I would hope.

@kirsten saell - hey, welcome to the 'Ann hates me club'. We'll have to get together with the Goldbergs and fry some fish. :)

//I think most intelligent adults consider the source and take her comments with an entire 50 lb bag of salt.///

Those were my thoughts also, but sadly she's gone and spread this crap over to Rydrawongs link-list thread; exactly where her personal issues with TeddyPig DO NOT belong. Just looking at her thread there makes my head hurt.

Rydrawongs link-list thread

Is that the Live Journal page that is all these links?
March 20th, 2009 @ 5:45 AM

Posted by Louise van Hine:

yes, that's rydrawong's LJ. What Ann doesn't yet seem to comprehend is that showing up here and there with a shrill proclamation (and ready links) pronouncing someone - in this case you, Teddy - is "an asshat" always runs the risk of being perceived an asshat. It's the Law of Conservation of Asshats or something.

LOL, tina. I've been a member for some time now. And I don't really do fish. Do the Goldbergs like steak?

I don't know what kind of ego it must take to appoint oneself the arbiter of what's righteous, what's unacceptable, who's good/bad, who's deserving of ridicule and scorn or a declaration of approval from the mount. Pretty much, if Ann hates someone, I'm more likely to give them the benefit of the doubt than not. The inverse for those she holds up as "good people". And that's sad, because among her "good people" are probably some great people, but the moment I see her endorsement, I find myself automatically biased against them until they convince me otherwise.

I've never seen someone more prone to badmouthing others, on her own blog and elsewhere. Or more quick to hurl accusations at people for badmouthing her--even if all they do is say "I don't agree, here's why."

But, as my uncle once said, "If you have the name, you might as well have the game," so here I am. :)

So, when's someone going to come up with the Ann Somerville Drinking Game?

Cause after reading these entries/comments from her, I certainly feel like downing a few shots.
March 20th, 2009 @ 7:34 AM

Posted by kirsten saell:

Hey, Nonny, interesting idea. One shot every time she calls someone an "-ist" of some kind, two for "-phobe". Four if she accuses a GLBT person of homophobia or a woman of misogyny. If she compares someone to the hind end of an Australian marsupial, you have to down the whole bottle.

God, I'd be drunk all the time.

Oh, don't apologize. I'm not scolding anybody. So far the discussion has been quite civil, especially compared to Ann's most recent blog entry (shudder). I'm just saying what I did because things can very easily get heated - understandably so - when it comes to Ann and I just want to avoid a mini-RaceFail09 happening here!

Now she's accusing me of of starting all her Live Journal wank troubles and threatening her contracts and losing her job or whatever. Like she is not seen and commented on by just about everyone.

I don't know Mrs. G this is getting a bit freaky.

I don't know why she thinks you are "unearthing" her "dirt". Once you know her previous LJ and fandom handles (and they aren't exactly secret), you only have to look up those names on Google to see a lot of her past skirmishes and feud laid bare on various blogs and Livejournals dating back to the last few years.

The lesson here seems more to be about online identity rather than racism, homophobia, Islamophobia, Teddypig-o-phia, Somervillism, or Cocksuckerphobia. Janet from DA got it right when she addressed the issue of outing rather than the smokes and mirrors about race and what not as the main issue that is worth discussing in the whole RaceFail09 nonsense.
March 21st, 2009 @ 2:00 AM

Posted by Teddypig:

You are correct Mrs. G and it is interesting to me.

I think you know as well as I do that the issue is not black and white especially concerning wank or Live Journal.

Just like comparing Will to Ann shows the different issues get complicated by the circumstances. Was it the "victims" actions or was it an attack.

Will and Coffee and that whole crew knew each other or were aware of each other through their occupation. I think there is pre-existing issues that bring to question certain claims. I consider that whole deal too convoluted to be used as an example of out right outing someone.

Writers attacking other writers using anonymity is more what it seems to come down to don't you think.

And that is a theme that hits home when we consider Ann.

You know, this is beyond...whatever...internet squabbles. It's really unfortunate and rather sad and I would say it's really, really, time to move away from the topic of Ann forever. I'm sorry for anyone who was hurt by her or got sucked into this nonsense, and sorry for her, cause something's just not right there. Don't we all have books to write or review or something. There, in writing, I will never visit such a topic again.
