Thanks to POD People for letting me know of this. It looks like Smashwords (https://www.smashwords.com) is a service that allows anyone - publishers or individuals - to run an ebook business. From what I can see, it claims to offer an easy file formatting device and charges only 15% of the sales price as its fee. Take a look if you are interested.

Thanks for the link. Looking it over, I'll stick w/ kindle/apple store. The author receives 85% of net - i.e. the author aborbs their paypal fee - and, apparently, they don't have a beneficial merchant account like most other third party retailers *seem to* - they note that the paypal fee on a transaction may be 35 cents (paypal goes by a set percent+ or 35 cents, whichever is higher). So, for a $1 pricepoint, paypal gets 35 cents, smashwords takes out any other costs, then I get 85% of what's left over. And no DRM. I can do that myself via paypal+payloadz. I would also have a concern that they might get hit with paypal's erotica policy, which the company only seems to enforce against independents and little guys.
